It is a portmanteau of transfer and fury. I thought it sounded neat and the domain was available, so…
Why hasn't my transfer started yet?
The upload doesn't start until the receiver starts their download.
Is there a file size limit?
Transfury is currently limited to file sizes of 256 MB.
How many people can I share my file with?
Each download can only be shared with one person, after which the link becomes invalid.
Is it secure?
Not really. All communication is unencrypted and there is a very slim chance someone could guess your download ID and get to it before your intended receipient. If you are that worried you should encrypt it before sending.
It's not really P2P is it?
Not really because the download is streamed through the server. It is only buffered, though, and never saved to disk. It is also a one-to-one communication, not one-to-many like other download services.
How does it work?
I use the socket.io
framework to handle the gritty web socket details. I use jQuery
for writing javscript and jQuery UI
. The server is a t1.micro running on Amazon EC2
Isn't it stupid to host a bandwidth intensive app on EC2?
